When is pink snapper season at Mangles Bay?

Cockburn Sound snapper is closed 1 August – 31 January each year for the spawning aggregation — no targeting, no retention. Outside the closure (February through July) they're a genuine target near the Garden Island causeway. Always verify current dates with DPIRD.

Can you wade-fish Mangles Bay?

Yes — wading the seagrass-and-sand flats at first light is the headline. Stay shallow, shuffle for stingrays, and fish the sand patches between weed beds. Surface lures for yellowfin whiting are particularly effective on calm rising tides.

Where do I find King George whiting?

On the cleaner sand edges between weed beds. Drift baits like squid strip or pipi on a long-shank #6 hook on light gear. Sight-fishing is feasible on calm sunny days with polarised glasses; the visual takes are part of the appeal.
