About Wallaroo Jetty

Wallaroo is the working port of the Copper Coast, and its jetty is the biggest piece of fishing infrastructure on this side of Spencer Gulf — 869 metres of grain wharf reaching into around ten metres of water, the third jetty on a site that has been shipping since 1861.

Best tide state to fish Wallaroo Jetty

The jetty reaches west over Wallaroo Bay, so westerly and south-westerly weather puts sea and colour straight onto it — which is exactly when the old snapper hands fished it, for whatever that is worth until mid-2027. Easterlies come off the land and flatten the bay, and clear, settled water is what the gar and (one day again) the squid want. Spencer Gulf tides are semi-diurnal with the fortnightly dodge tide, when the water barely moves for a day and the fishing usually moves with it — plan around a running tide at dawn or dusk. Winter brings the whiting within range and the bigger evening tommies; summer is crabs, gar and holiday crowds.

What anglers target here

Anglers fishing Wallaroo Jetty typically time sessions around the tide for australian herring, garfish, king george whiting, blue swimmer crab, and southern calamari (squid).
