Is the Robe jetty open?

No. It was storm-damaged in late May 2025 and split in two during the king tides and six-metre swells of 24-25 June 2025. As of September 2026 no rebuild has been announced. Tourism sites and even the official regional fishing guide still recommend it, but they are running copy written before the storms.

Where can you fish in Robe now?

The Lake Butler marina rock walls and channel take bream, squid, flathead and summer school mulloway, and Long Beach from the third ramp north toward Boatswain Point gives whiting, flathead, salmon, mullet and garfish. Back Beach and Evans Cave Beach carry winter salmon and summer mulloway, and Little Dip Conservation Park is the four-wheel-drive surf fishing around Bishops Pate and Domaschenz Beach.

Can you fish at the Cape Dombey Obelisk?

No. The Cape Dombey sanctuary zone is no-take and the whole headland frontage sits inside it, the Obelisk included, with the no-take water running to the high water mark below the monument. The cliffs there are also actively collapsing. Check the Department for Environment and Water's marine parks map for the current boundary, and fish the Lake Butler marina, Long Beach or the town beaches instead, all of which sit clear of the zone.

Can you keep snapper at Robe?

Yes. Robe is in the South East zone, the only part of South Australia where snapper are open while the rest of the state is closed until at least 30 June 2027. The minimum is 38 cm, the bag is 5 and the boat limit 15, and every snapper kept must be reported through the free SA Fishing app.

Can you catch crayfish from the shore at Robe?

Not at the moment. The southern zone rock lobster season is closed from 6pm on 31 May to 6am on 1 October. In season the minimum is 9.85 cm across the carapace with a bag of 4, pots must be registered before use and renewed annually to a maximum of two per person, and the middle tail fan must be clipped or punched before the lobster comes ashore.

Do you need a fishing licence at Robe?

No. Fishing in South Australia needs no general recreational licence. Size limits, bag limits and closures still apply, and the South East zone rules that cover Robe are the ones where squid, garfish and snapper are all legal, so the free SA Fishing app is worth having on the phone.
