How do you get to Munglinup Beach?

From Ravensthorpe, head 83.5km east along the South Coast Highway and turn at Fuss Road, which is sealed, then follow Springdale Road for 10.1km of gravel and Munglinup Beach Road for the last 3.7km, about 14km of unsealed driving inside a 24km run from the highway. It is 130km from Esperance and roughly a seven-hour drive south-east of Perth. The beach itself is accessible by car, which is unusual on this coast, but the last stretch is gravel and worth checking after rain.

Can you swim at Munglinup Beach?

Yes. Munglinup Beach forms a 600m lagoon protected by an outer reef system, and it is described as good for both swimming and snorkelling. That protection stops at the reef line and at the rock headlands at either end, where it becomes open Southern Ocean. The lagoon is the family water and the headlands are not.

What can you catch at Munglinup Beach?

Salmon, skippy, herring, tailor, flathead, yellowfin whiting, squid and gummy shark, plus mulloway and a range of reef species off the rock headlands. Salmon are the headline and reach this part of the coast from late summer into autumn, earlier than around Albany. Fish light inside the reef-protected lagoon and heavy off the headlands and the open beach either side.

Is there drinking water at the Munglinup Beach campground?

No. The public campground has on-site toilet facilities and non-potable water, and visitors are expected to be fully self-sufficient for food, drinking water and fuel. Munglinup Beach Holiday Park, opposite the Oldfield Estuary, offers serviced accommodation if you would rather not camp. There is no national park entry fee here.

Does the South Coast Marine Park affect fishing at Munglinup Beach?

It affects a boat here more than it affects the sand. Zoning comes into operation in late 2026, and there is a Munglinup Sanctuary Zone whose boundary sits about 900m off this beach; sanctuary zones prohibit recreational fishing outright. Shore fishing off Munglinup stays open, but a small boat launched off the sand is inside that zone within minutes, so from late 2026 the zoning map goes in the boat. The boundaries of some sanctuary zones have been offset from the mainland high water mark, and placed away from jetties and boat ramps, so that shore fishing keeps its access. Check the department's zoning map before a trip rather than relying on any single page.
