Is Barn Hill Station open?

Yes. The station's own site carries 2026 rates and takes bookings, and its 2026 bookings opened on 1 January. The peak season runs about April to October, and off-season rates apply between 12 October and 31 March, so it appears to trade outside the peak rather than closing for the wet. Ring the station on (08) 9192 4975 to confirm before a long drive.

What does it cost to stay at Barn Hill?

In the 2026 peak, $65 a night covers a powered caravan or camping site or an unpowered ocean-view site for one or two adults, and unpowered standard and park sites are $25 per person. A camping shelter with ocean views is $80 a night for two adults and a camping hut is $140 for two adults and two children. Extra adults are $25 and children aged 5 to 15 are $5. Off-season rates between 12 October and 31 March drop to $55 for two on powered or ocean-view sites and $20 per person otherwise, and stays of 28 days or more get 10 per cent off.

What fish can you catch at Barn Hill?

Bluenose salmon are the species those September 2016 fishing reports actually name for this beach, and shore-based anglers have had them here in numbers. Queenfish and bluebone are also reported here, though only by a single travel blog. Golden trevally, mackerel and tuna get mentioned without a species attached, and one visitor watched tuna feeding within 15m of the shore, so keep a lure ready.

Are there crocodiles at Barn Hill?

The station's own wording is slim chance, but Barn Hill sits well inside known crocodile habitat — the department puts that as extending south to Exmouth in Western Australia, with occasional records further south again to Carnarvon. Slim chance is not no chance. In late August 2026 a 3.5m saltie was caught 100m offshore north of Cable Beach at Broome, and in June 2026 a fisherman was reported bitten at Barred Creek 40km north of Broome after standing on one in waist-deep water. Stay crocodile-aware, keep away from creek and mangrove edges, and don't clean fish at the water's edge.

Can you drive on the beach at Barn Hill?

Only to launch or retrieve a boat. 4WDs are permitted on the sand for that purpose and no other, so this is not a beach-driving destination. The upside is that the sand stays walkable, and the fishing here is shore-based anyway.
