About Tumby Bay Jetty

Tumby Bay's jetty is 350-odd metres of timber off the town centre, with a lineage going back to 1874 — the second jetty ever built on Eyre Peninsula — extended through 1905 and 1909 and rebuilt so heavily since that sources disagree on whether you are standing on Edwardian timber or a 1999 reconstruction.

Best tide state to fish Tumby Bay Jetty

Tumby Bay is an open bay on the gulf's western shore, sheltered from westerlies and exposed to easterly wind chop; in summer the south-easterly sea breeze is the one that pushes anglers off the deck, and the council's own guide notes Port Neill is often the more sheltered option when it blows. Tides are modest compared with the upper gulf — there is no Port Germein-style retreat here, and the jetty fishes right through the cycle. The bottom along the jetty runs sandy shallows, then seagrass, then siltier ground with debris toward the closed end: classic squid-and-whiting country, even if only the whiting are currently legal. Clear winter water is prime for King George whiting; summer warms the shallows and brings the yellowfin run and the odd small kingfish.

What anglers target here
