Do you need a permit to visit Cape Leveque and One Arm Point?

No permit is needed to drive Cape Leveque Road, but Beagle Bay, Lombadina and One Arm Point (Ardyaloon) charge a small access fee at their community offices. Ardyaloon's community pass has been $23 per adult and $11 per child on weekdays and $10/$5 on weekends, covering Jologo Beach, Middle Beach and Round Rock, with EFTPOS the preferred payment. The hatchery tour that came with it is closed until further notice after damage, so confirm the current fee at the office. Stay on the main road unless heading to a booked camp or a community that has taken the fee, and call ahead — communities usually open to visitors on weekdays and can close for ceremonies or funerals.

Is Kooljaman at Cape Leveque open?

No. Kooljaman at Cape Leveque has been closed since 2021 with no announced reopening date, and while it is shut there is no public access to the beaches and cliffs on its land. Book one of the operating campgrounds, such as Middle Lagoon, Cygnet Bay or Djarindjin, and remember there is no free camping anywhere on the peninsula. Cygnet Bay's own waters are a cultural protection zone, so the rods are for somewhere else.

Can you fish in the Bardi Jawi Gaarra Marine Park?

Yes, in the general use and biocultural conservation zones, which cover roughly half the park. Sanctuary zones (about 25 per cent, including Pender Bay, offshore water north-east of the peninsula and part of King Sound south of One Arm Point) ban all fishing, and cultural protection zones (about 26 per cent, including Leveque Island, Hunter Creek, Cygnet Bay, Catamaran and Curlew bays, and the coast from Thomas Bay past Chile and Lombadina creeks to Lombadina Point) allow recreational fishing only from a charter boat or on a licensed shore-based tour. Zoning has been enforced since 19 July 2026, with $400 infringements and fines up to $5,000; check the interactive map on rules.fish.wa.gov.au before each trip.

Is the Cape Leveque Road sealed?

Yes — the main Broome–Cape Leveque Road is now sealed for essentially all of its roughly 220km, so a 2WD and most caravans can reach the communities. Side roads to beaches and camps are unsealed and many are 4WD-only, including the 33km access road into Middle Lagoon. Roads can close after heavy rain in the wet season, so check the Main Roads WA travel map first.

Are there crocodiles at Cape Leveque?

Yes. Saltwater crocodiles are not common at the tip but they do turn up — crocs have been sighted off the Cape Leveque beaches, Hunter Creek nearby is known croc habitat, and the northern waters at One Arm Point are croc country. Treat creeks and mangroves as croc water, don't wade, and swim only where locals advise.
