What can you catch off the Singing Bridge at Tea Gardens?

Mainly yellowfin bream, dusky flathead and sand whiting, with luderick through the cooler months and mulloway in the deeper holes on the tide changes. Bream are the year-round staple; whiting and flathead are best from spring through autumn. You will need a NSW Recreational Fishing Fee to fish here, as you do anywhere in NSW.

What is the best tide to fish the Singing Bridge?

The incoming tide is the one locals fish — the rising water pushes clean bait in from Port Stephens and switches the bream and whiting on. Aim to be set up an hour or two before the top of the tide. Low light on a rising tide is the prime window.

Can you fish off the Singing Bridge itself?

No — fishing from the bridge deck is not permitted. The two 1.5-metre pedestrian walkways are there to get you across, and the fishing is done from the banks, the abutments and the foreshore either side, which is where the current and the structure are anyway. Keep casts and gear clear of the road and watch for boat traffic in the channel below.

Is there parking and are there toilets near the Singing Bridge?

Yes. There is parking on the Tea Gardens bank at the western abutment, and Moira Parade Reserve on the Hawks Nest side is a short walk from the eastern end with parking and public toilets. The flat sealed paths make it an easy and kid-friendly spot, and the bank fishing starts a few steps away.

What size do dusky flathead need to be to keep in NSW?

Dusky flathead have a slot limit of 36 to 70cm in NSW, with a daily bag limit of 5. Any fish over 70cm must be released, as the big females are the best breeders. Carry a brag mat and a NSW Recreational Fishing Fee, and check the current rules on the NSW DPIRD FishSmart app before you keep anything.
