Local Knowledge
Two Rocks is the northernmost marina in the metro area, and it gets less fishing pressure than spots further south. The entrance mouth gets real current when the tide runs, and the reef system offshore pushes bait in along the walls. Tailor schools push through here in autumn, and the quieter conditions mean you're often fishing with space. The marina shares its name with the two distinctive limestone outcrops just offshore that create the local landmark.
Focus on the entrance mouth when there's tidal flow — fish the edges where current meets the rock walls. Inside the marina is calmer and better for squid and herring at night. In autumn, work metals or pilchards for tailor around the entrance at dawn and dusk. For sand whiting, fish the sandy patches outside the breakwater on light gear.
Herring, tailor (autumn schools push north along the coast), skippy, squid, occasional salmon when they're running in season, sand whiting on cleaner patches, garfish in calm corners, and snook on jigs at first light.
Rocks near the mouth can be slippery — wear proper footwear. The reef offshore means this area fishes differently to the southern marinas. Don't fish from active boat-ramp lanes.
Access & Conditions
Sealed car park at the marina precinct with overflow on the foreshore. Sealed paths along the walls and foreshore — partial mobility access. Public toilets, a tackle outlet and small commercial precinct. No comprehensive lighting on all walls; head torch helpful for night sessions. Parking generally easy outside summer weekends and school holidays. The drive from central Perth is around 50 minutes.
West-facing position with sheltered marina inside breakwater walls. The entrance channel gets genuine tidal current on the change. Fishes well in most conditions thanks to the breakwater shelter. Easterly mornings are calmest. The two limestone outcrops just offshore create localised cross-swell that affects the entrance mouth. Water clarity is generally good; reduces only in days after winter storms.
Slippery rocks at the entrance mouth; proper footwear is essential. Boat traffic in and out of the marina is constant during the day; keep lines clear of the navigation channel. Bluebottles drift in during summer northerlies. The cross-swell off the two limestone outcrops can surprise inattentive anglers near the entrance. Remote enough that mobile coverage may be patchy in places; tell someone where you're fishing.
Gear & Rigs
Squid: 2.0–3.0 jigs in pink, orange or natural worked along the walls under any lit sections at night. Herring and skippy: 7ft 6–10lb spin gear with paternoster #6 hooks. Tailor at the entrance: 9–10ft rod with 15–20lb braid and ganged-hook mulies or 30–40g metals at dawn and dusk during autumn. Sand whiting: light 4–8lb spin with a long-shank #6 paternoster on prawn or bloodworm. Snook: shallow stickbaits at first light.
Seasons
Squid is reliable from August through February with peaks in spring and late summer. Tailor push through autumn (March–June) and Two Rocks is on the autumn run path. Australian salmon push through in autumn but reach Two Rocks less reliably than the bigger southern spots. Herring are year-round with summer peaks. Snook are a summer first-light surface fishery.
If this spot's blown out
- Yanchep Lagoon — Drive 10 minutes south for the protected lagoon and reef-trap fishery.
- Lancelin (Jetty & Back Beach) — Drive 30 minutes north for the major destination jetty and back beach fishery.
- Mindarie Marina — Drive 20 minutes south for the closer-in marina alternative.
Frequently Asked
About 50 minutes' drive — the northernmost marina in the metro area. Further than Hillarys and Mindarie, but the trade-off is less fishing pressure and more space. Worth the drive for a quiet session.
At the entrance mouth on tide changes — both incoming and outgoing. The flow concentrates bait through the channel and tailor and squid follow. Fish the edges where current meets the rock walls.
Caravan parks and accommodation are available in Two Rocks township and along the northern coastal corridor. The marina itself is a session destination rather than an overnight base. The drive back to Perth is around 50 minutes if you want to fish and return same-day.
Year-round, but the species mix shifts. Squid is reliable August–February. Tailor and salmon push through autumn (March–June). Herring fish year-round. Cooler months are quieter for squid but better for fewer crowds and pinkies inshore.
