Pinnaroo Point is a rocky outcrop with reef breaks a short cast offshore — a proper land-based fishing spot hiding inside a family park with toilets and grass. You get depth straight off the rocks, reef structure to hold bait, and access to the deeper water between Hillarys and Mullaloo without needing a boat. It's one of the best squid spots on the metro coast.

Work the rocky outcrop just north of the main car park — that's where locals fish. Squid jigs in spring and summer, especially early morning or late afternoon into last light. Cast metals across the reef edge for tailor and salmon in autumn. After dark, step up the leader and fish mulie baits or live herring for mulloway. The sandy pockets between reefs also hold whiting on light gear in summer.

Generous car park at Pinnaroo Point Beach in Hillarys, immediately behind the rocky outcrop. Public toilets, grassed picnic reserve and beach showers sit on the foreshore. The walk from the car park to the productive rocks is under 100 metres on a sealed path — among the easiest access on this batch. The rocks themselves are uneven and not mobility-friendly, but the foreshore is. Parking fills on summer weekends; arrive early or pick a weekday session.

West-facing rocky outcrop fully exposed to SW swell — the spot shuts down quickly when the swell pushes past about 2m. Easterly mornings are the most comfortable; afternoon seabreezes blow onshore from late morning. Several inshore reef breaks just offshore hold bait and create the ambush structure that makes the spot work. Tide changes both fish well, but the late-afternoon run-in into dusk is the classic squid window. Water clarity is generally good outside the days after a winter storm.

Rocks get slippery wet or dry, and swell can wash the lower edges in any conditions over 1.5m — wear grippy shoes and watch sets for several minutes before committing to a ledge. The reef breaks just offshore can throw cross-swell that surprises people on the lower rocks. Bluebottles drift in during summer northerlies. Pedestrians and cyclists on the foreshore path move close behind the rocks; back-casts can hook anyone who walks past.

Yes for the easy bits — herring and squid from the high rocks on calm days are accessible with light tackle. Beginners should avoid the lower ledges in any swell and stick to the upper outcrop until they're confident reading sets.

2.5 to 3.0 size jigs in pink, orange or natural patterns are the staple. Worked slowly across the reef edges in the last hour of light or first hour after dawn is the classic setup.

Yes — mulloway are the standout target after dark. Stick to the upper rocks if you don't know the spot, and use a head torch. Avoid the lower ledges entirely at night unless you've fished them in daylight first.
