Bicton Baths is a quiet stretch of the Swan River with old jetty structure and subtle depth changes that hold fish. It doesn't look like much compared to flashier spots, but the pylons and edges hold bream year-round, and the sandy bottom is flathead territory. It's a finesse spot that rewards patience and light tackle. The lap-pool style enclosure makes it a popular swimming and family beach in summer, so anglers fish either side of the swim area.

Work soft plastics or light bait rigs around the pylons and along the edges where sand meets structure. Let the current do the work — natural drift presentations outfish anything forced. Tide turns are the best windows, especially when they coincide with low light. From the boards, drop baits straight down for bream and tarwhine; from the shore, cast soft plastics across the sand for flathead.

Bream (the main target, year-round around structure), flathead (sandy bottom, ambush feeders), tarwhine and herring around the pylons, and occasional tailor or mulloway moving through the river system. Cobbler are present and must be released.

Quieter periods early morning and late evening fish best. Keep your weights light so baits drift naturally. This isn't a spot for heavy gear; 4–6lb leaders and small hooks are what works. Don't fish in the swim enclosure during summer daylight hours — it's poor form and you'll get told off.

Park along Blackwall Reach Parade, Bicton; the foreshore is a short, level walk from the road. Sealed paths run along the foreshore and the lap-pool boards — among the more mobility-friendly Swan-River spots. Public toilets, change rooms, BBQs and a grassed picnic area sit on the foreshore. No formal lighting, so a head torch is needed for after-dark sessions. Parking fills on summer weekends when the baths are in swim-use.

South-bank position with the afternoon Fremantle Doctor blowing across the river. Easterly mornings are calmest. Tide influence in this stretch is muted but enough to push bream activity around the pylons; the rising tide into dusk is the most productive window. Water clarity is generally good outside the days after heavy rain. The lap pool's enclosure stays calm in any conditions because the structure breaks any surface chop.

Light hazards by Perth standards. Boards get slippery in heavy dew and after rain. Stingrays cruise the sand around the structure; shuffle if you wade. Boat and SUP traffic uses the channel adjacent. Cobbler spike badly; release with care. Bluebottles drift up the river in summer northerlies.

Outside swim hours yes, but it's poor form during the day in summer when it's used as a swimming area. Most anglers fish either side of the enclosure and avoid it altogether during peak swim times.
