Sorrento has two purpose-built groynes that create defined structure in an otherwise open stretch of coast. The groynes concentrate bait and create the kind of current breaks that fish use as ambush points. Between Sorrento and Trigg, this stretch of coast is consistently productive for whiting, tarwhine, tailor, and herring.

Fish the groyne edges where current breaks create eddies — cast parallel to the rocks and work baits or metals through the seam where turbulent and clean water meet. The sand between the groynes holds whiting on light rigs. At dawn and dusk, tailor and herring work the groyne edges aggressively.

Sorrento is a popular swimming beach — fish the dawn window before swimmers arrive or fish the groynes at dusk when the beach empties. Keep casts away from swimming areas. The groynes can be slippery with algae growth; fish from the beach and cast toward the structure rather than climbing out on the rocks.
