How many groynes does Sorrento have?

Two purpose-built groynes — the southern and northern groynes about 200m apart. Both create defined eddies and current seams. The sand between them is productive whiting water; the groyne edges hold tailor and herring.

Is Sorrento good for kids fishing?

Yes for the protected swim-area sections in calm conditions with adult supervision and light tackle. The groynes themselves are slippery and not suited to younger anglers. Sorrento Beach Reserve has cafes, toilets and amenities that suit families.

When do salmon run past Sorrento?

March through June, with the strongest interception sessions in April–May. Salmon hug the coast and the groynes are known interception points. Run-and-gun with metals on a fast retrieve along the groyne edges.

Can I fish at Sorrento during the day?

Yes outside patrolled swimming hours and the afternoon seabreeze in summer. Dawn before swimmers arrive and dusk when the beach empties are the productive windows. Mornings are easier in calm easterly weather.
